One in five to one in fifty: K-beauty across America's shelves, read in one week

For the first time since August, all five major US shelves we track were read in the same week. Side by side, K-beauty's place in American retail comes out as a clean gradient: about one in five products at Ulta and Sephora, one in seven at Amazon — and on the mass shelves, one in twelve at Target and one in fifty at Walmart.

20% · 18%
of Ulta's and Sephora's best-seller charts are K-beauty this week — roughly one in five on America's beauty specialists
15%
of Amazon's Beauty & Personal Care best-sellers — a wider list than the other four are K-beauty — one in seven, below the beauty specialists even with medicube near the top
9% · 2%
at Target (8 of 92) and Walmart (2 of 100) — the mass shelves carry a fraction of what the beauty specialists do
Bar chart of the share of each US best-seller chart that is K-beauty, 2026-W40: Sephora 18% (18 of 100), Ulta 20% (20 of 100), Amazon 15% (15 of 100), Target 9% (8 of 92), Walmart 2% (2 of 100).
K-beauty share of each US best-seller chart, 2026-W40, all five re-read this week. About one in five at Ulta and Sephora, one in seven at Amazon, one in twelve at Target, one in fifty at Walmart.

Most weeks we can only read part of the American shelf at once. This week we read all five — Ulta, Sephora, Amazon, Target and Walmart, same seven days — which makes this the cleanest cross-retailer comparison we have had since August.

A gradient from specialist to mass

Fact. K-beauty makes up 20% of Ulta's best-seller chart and 18% of Sephora's, 15% of Amazon's, about 9% of Target's and 2% of Walmart's. Observation. The beauty specialists sit together near one in five; the marketplace a step below; the two mass retailers far below that. Inference. The shelves where shoppers go looking for skincare carry the most Korean product. The shelves where skincare is one aisle among many carry the least.

One brand leads K-beauty on both mass-leaning lists

The highest-placed Korean brand on Amazon is medicube, at #2 — and on Target it is medicube again, at #14. On the two broadest American shelves, the brand carrying K-beauty's weight is the same one. We keep this at the brand level: these lists do not let us follow individual products week to week.

Three shelves read with care

Amazon's list is its whole Beauty & Personal Care best-seller chart — hair, body, oral care and fragrance as well as skincare — while the other four are skincare lists. Part of Amazon's lower share is that wider denominator, so read its step below the specialists with that in mind. Target's list was read from a new source this week — a skincare search sorted by sales, 92 items deep — so we treat its 9% as this week's level and do not compare it with earlier weeks. Walmart's list has been sorted by best-sellers since late September; its 2% is comparable from then on, but not with Walmart figures from before that change.

Receipt: every number above is checkable against the 2026-W40 archive · method on /methodology. K-beauty share = K-beauty products ÷ observed products on each retailer's best-seller chart, 2026-W40, by brand origin, using this week's sealed values. All five channels were re-read this week. Ulta, Sephora, Target and Walmart are skincare best-seller lists; Amazon's is the whole Beauty & Personal Care chart, a wider category. Ulta, Sephora, Amazon and Walmart run 100 deep; Target's list (92) came from a new source this week (scope_changed_week 2026-W40), so it is read as this week's level only. Walmart's list switched to a best-seller sort in 2026-W39, so it is not comparable with earlier Walmart figures. Chart position, not audited sales. Brand origin decides what counts as K-beauty: Biore (Kao, Japan) is sold on Korea's Olive Young shelf but is not counted as a Korean brand.
