Korea's makeup chart and America's share almost no brands.

Skincare crosses the Pacific; makeup, so far, does not. Among the top 20 makeup brands on each of our charts, Korea's is led by CLIO and rom&nd — the tint-and-cushion names that define the home market. The US chart is led by BBIA and DONGWHA PHARM. The two rosters share almost nothing.

Run the same comparison that makes K-beauty skincare famous — Korea's chart against the US chart — and makeup gives the opposite answer. In skincare, the two sides share cult brands and crossover hits. In makeup, the top-20 rosters are almost entirely different names. The brands Koreans reach for and the Korean brands Americans order are two nearly separate lists.

Korea's makeup chart is CLIO, rom&nd, lilybyred, JUNGSAEMMOOL — the cushions, tints and cheek products that are household staples at home. The US-side chart of Korean makeup runs on BBIA, DONGWHA PHARM, tfit, ELROEL — a different, less famous set that happens to travel through the channels US customers actually order from.

Why makeup stays home when skincare leaves

Skincare is a claim — a barrier cream works the same on any face, and a K-beauty routine sells globally on ingredients and results. Makeup is a fit: shade ranges, undertones, formats and beauty norms are local, and the color a Seoul shopper wants is not automatically the color a US shopper searches for. So the makeup that crosses over is not Korea's biggest brands — it's whatever found a distribution path and a niche audience abroad.

What the gap is worth watching for

This is the widest kind of white space: a category where the home-market winners have barely registered abroad. If a CLIO or a rom&nd makes a serious US push, our charts would catch the crossover the moment it starts — a brand jumping from 'absent' to 'charting.' Until then, makeup is the clearest reminder that K-beauty's global story is, for now, a skincare story.
